TALENT ACQUISITION

If the author is not reading the work, we’ll find the voice(s) you want and negotiate their fees directly, or through their agent. This is sometimes a lengthy process, and once completed still leaves us dependent upon their schedule and availability. If at all possible, the author is usually the best choice for both time and budget, although a skilled actor can enhance the listener’s experience by bringing the work to life in a special way.

RECORDING

Typically we record where it is most convenient for the narrator. All recording is done in the digital domain using a minimal, clean signal path and the highest resolution available for the highest quality end product. High-end microphones engineered for digital recording are utilized, and their signals processed by the finest transparent preamps prior to digital conversion.

EDITING and POST PRODUCTION

Original recordings are polished into a pleasurable listening experience that accurately depicts the work. Mistakes are excised and the narration tightened. Glitches that might be distracting are eliminated, levels are matched and balanced. Music and effects might be added where deemed appropriate. The first, full length version is then submitted for approval.

MEDIA MANUFACTURING

Medium and large publishers are still selling physical media, but it’s difficult for a smaller publisher to make the investment to fill the pipeline. All the challenges that face a print publisher also plague the audio publisher of physical media, i.e., distribution, long payment terms, returns, and damage. I can manufacture on demand if you desire, or manufacture in small batches if you decide you must distribute physical media. New alternatives are also being tried, such as Compact Flash memory and pre-loaded USB drives.
